CPI inflation decelerates to 10.3pc in September

Islamabad: The core inflation measured by Consumer Price Index (CPI) decelerated to 10.3 percent during September 2026 as compared to 11.1 percent recorded during August 2026, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported Thursday.



According to PBS data, the CPI based inflation during the same month of last year (September 2025) was recorded at 5.8%.



On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.3% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 1.2% in the previous month and an increase of 2.1% in September 2025.



According to PBS data, the CPI inflation urban, increased by 10.1% on year-on-year basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 10.4% in the previous month and an increase of 5.7% in September 2025. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.3% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.9% in the previous month and an increase of 1.6% in September 2025.



The CPI inflation rural, increased by 10.5% on year-on-year basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 12.2% in the previous month and an increase of 5.9% observed in September 2025. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.2% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 1.6% in the previous month and an increase of 2.8% in September 2025.



Meanwhile, the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation on YoY basis increased by 8.4% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 9.5% in the previous month and an increase of 4.5% in September 2025. On MoM basis, it increased by 1.0% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.9% in the previous month and an increase of 2.0% in September 2025.



Likewise, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on YoY basis increased by 13.3% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 11.8% in the previous month and an increase of 0.6% in September 2025. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.9% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 2.0% in the previous month and an increase of 0.5% in September 2025.



The core inflation measured by non-food non-energy (NFNE) Urban increased by 8.6% on (YoY) basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 8.8% in the previous month and an increase of 7.0% in September 2025. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 0.2% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.5% in the previous month and an increase of 0.3% in the corresponding month of last year i.e. September 2025.



The NFNE based core inflation rural increased by 8.1% on (YoY) basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 8.5% in the previous month and an increase of 7.8% in September 2025. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 0.2% in September 2026 as compared to 0.6% in the previous month and an increase of 0.6% in the corresponding month of last year i.e. September 2025.
