Lahore Police, LUMS students sign MoU to digitise animal rescue centre

Lahore

Lahore: Lahore Police and students of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to connect the Police Animal Rescue Centre (PARC) with modern technology and digitise its rescue and animal protection records.

According to spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran signed the agreement aimed at developing a digital system for maintaining records related to animal rescue, treatment, transfer and protection.

Under the new system, relevant information would be made available through a centralised digital platform and linked with artificial intelligence (AI), enabling monitoring of rescue, treatment and transfer cases as well as incidents involving animal cruelty, the spokesperson added.

Speaking on the occasion, Faisal Kamran said that although animals were voiceless, their protection was a moral and social responsibility.

He said hundreds of animals had so far been rescued through PARC and provided a safe environment, treatment and necessary care.

The DIG said protection of animals and prevention of cruelty against them were also among the priorities of Lahore Police, adding that modern technology would make the system more effective.

He said the new digital system would ensure that a record of every rescue case was properly maintained.
