Lahore: City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) on Friday issued a special traffic management plan for Jamaat-e-Islami’s protest rallies and sit-in scheduled in the Mozang area, advising commuters to avoid unnecessary travel in and around the venue during peak hours.
According to a spokesperson, the rallies were expected to reach Mozang and Qurtaba Chowk after 4:00 p. m. , resulting in heavy traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
The spokesperson said traffic diversions would remain in place from 4:00 p. m. until Maghrib around Hamdard Chowk, Mozang, Qurtaba Chowk and adjoining roads.
Motorists travelling from Jain Mandir on Lower Mall towards Ichhra have been advised to use Mall Road, Lawrence Road and Shadman instead of Lytton Road.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel through Mozang and Qurtaba Chowk during the protest and advised them to seek traffic guidance through the Police Helpline 15 and Rasta FM before starting their journey.
He said three DSPs and more than 100 traffic wardens had been deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow.
He added that traffic would be diverted to alternate routes in phases if congestion increased.
The CTO appealed to the public to cooperate with traffic wardens and strictly follow traffic instructions to help ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the protest.
