Islamabad

Islamabad: Students from the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) and Bahria University have completed their internship with Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) under the ‘Friends of Police’ programme, gaining practical exposure to policing, traffic management and road safety.

An official told reporter on Wednesday that a closing ceremony was held to mark the completion of the internship, with Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Kainat Azhar Khan attending as the special guest.

During the internship, the students were introduced to different sections of ITP and given practical information about traffic management, road safety, traffic laws, policing and public service.

The students also shared their experiences at the ceremony and spoke about what they had learned while working with different sections of the traffic police.

Speaking on the occasion, CTO Kainat encouraged young people to take an active part in positive activities and said the Friends of Police programme was helping strengthen contact and mutual trust between police and youth.

She said practical training and exposure to different areas of policing would help students understand their civic responsibilities and become more responsible citizens.

‘Youth are our future, and it is important to provide them opportunities to play an effective role in society through positive activities,’ she said.

CTO Kainat said ITP was organising different programmes to educate the younger generation about traffic laws, road safety and civic responsibilities, while efforts were also being made to further strengthen cooperation between the traffic police and educational institutions.

She said creating awareness among young people about respect for law and compliance with traffic rules remained among ITP’s priorities.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, certificates were distributed among the students who successfully completed the internship.
