Faisalabad: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Nauman Siddique launched a three-pronged drive to improve civic facilities in Faisalabad and ordered for modernization of Municipal Library, acceleration of major parking plaza projects around historic Clock Tower and timely completion of beautification schemes in Aminpur Bazaar and Jhang Bazaar to make central areas of the city more functional, accessible and attractive for citizens.
During his visit to Municipal Library, he inspected various sections and reviewed the facilities available for readers and book lovers.
He directed the concerned officials to bring the library in line with modern requirements and create a more comfortable and conducive environment for education, research, reading and preparation for competitive examinations.
He ordered improved and comfortable seating arrangements for readers, provision of internet facilities, construction and maintenance of quality washrooms, installation of dustbins and maintenance of a clean and peaceful study environment.
He also directed the library administration to expand its collection of useful and quality books, particularly those required by students and candidates preparing for competitive examinations.
He instructed the authorities to complete and make the computer laboratory functional at the earliest and take necessary measures to upgrade the library with modern facilities.
He also directed improvement of the building’s front elevation to enhance its overall appearance.
He said that Municipal Library should evolve into a modern learning facility where students and other citizens could pursue education, reading and research in a peaceful and enabling atmosphere while also preparing effectively for competitive examinations.
He subsequently inspected the under-construction parking plazas being established at different locations around Clock Tower to address parking-related problems in busy commercial core of the city.
The parking plazas are being constructed at Imam Bargah Site-I, Imam Bargah Site-II, Karkhana Bazaar, Aminpur Bazaar and Katchery Bazaar.
During inspection, the deputy commissioner reviewed the pace, quality and overall progress of construction work.
Expressing concern over slow progress on some projects, he directed the executing agencies and contractors to accelerate construction activities and continue work in double shifts to ensure timely completion.
He said that completion of parking plazas within stipulated timeframe would provide better parking facilities and help ease traffic and parking pressure in densely populated and commercially important central areas of Faisalabad.
He also visited Aminpur Bazaar and Jhang Bazaar to inspect implementation of ongoing beautification projects and review progress on various development components.
The officials informed him that around 60 percent work on the Aminpur Bazaar beautification project had already been completed while construction and improvement activities under Jhang Bazaar beautification project were also progressing rapidly.
The deputy commissioner directed the relevant departments and executing agencies to maintain the pace of work and ensure timely completion of both beautification projects.
The development schemes should be completed according to the prescribed standards and within stipulated timelines so that citizens could benefit from improved civic infrastructure, cleaner surroundings and better-designed public spaces, he added.
