BAHAWALPUR: Cotton plays a key role in the national economy and due to the Punjab government’s farmer-friendly initiatives, the best cotton production is expected this year.
The month of July is important for better cotton management.
The Agriculture Department’s field staff is actively guiding farmers. Director General Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Abdul Hameed expressed these views during a visit to Bahawalpur Division, where a meeting was held with experts in pest warning, quality control, research, and other agricultural areas.
He emphasized ensuring proper drainage of rainwater from cotton fields during the monsoon season. Farmers were advised to avoid unnecessary use of urea and instead use fertilizers like ammonium sulfate and nitrophos.
They were also suggested to follow the department’s advice for treating and preventing damage from weeds and pests during rainy days, and ensure pest scouting twice a week.

Director Agriculture Bahawalpur Division Muhammad Jameel Ghouri briefed that Bahawalpur Division holds a prominent position in cotton production nationwide. Due to farmer-friendly government policies, the best cotton production is expected this year.
