Hyderabad: All three environmental surveillance samples collected from the key water pumping stations in Hyderabad have tested negative for polio-virus, marking a significant development in the district’s ongoing efforts to interrupt virus transmission.
A spokesman of Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abedin Memon informed here on Saturday that the samples collected from Tulsidas, Qadir Nagar and Latifabad pumping stations in City, Qasimabad and Latifabad talukas, respectively, have all returned negative.
He recalled that the environmental samples had remained negative since May, turning positive only once in the intervening period in the month of August amid gaps between previous vaccination campaigns.
The spokesman underlined that the current negative report reflected strengthened environmental surveillance, vaccination activities and field-level interventions carried out by the district administration, polio teams and relevant partner departments.
In his statement, the DC Hyderabad said that the latest negative results were an encouraging development and a significant outcome of their sustained efforts. He added that the coordinated efforts to prevent the re-emergence and transmission of polio-virus in Hyderabad would continue with the same focus, vigilance and commitment.
