Abbottabad: The Department of Interventional Cardiology at Ayub Medical Teaching Institution has successfully performed a complex coronary angioplasty on a 70-year-old patient, marking another significant achievement in advanced cardiac care in Hazara.
According to the institution, the patient was suffering from complex coronary artery disease and had been advised to undergo Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery. However, the patient opted against bypass surgery.
Interventional cardiology specialists subsequently performed the procedure using the advanced Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) technique to break down calcium deposits in the affected artery, followed by successful implantation of a coronary stent.
Post-procedure angiography showed highly satisfactory results, and the patient’s complex coronary artery disease was successfully treated.
The Department of Cardiology at Ayub Teaching Hospital performs around 2,500 cardiology procedures annually, including complex interventional cardiology cases.
The institution said modern medical facilities, skilled specialists and advanced technology were enabling it to provide quality cardiac care to patients in the region.
It added that the successful procedure reflected the growing capabilities of interventional cardiology at Ayub Medical Teaching Institution and its efforts to introduce advanced treatment techniques for complex heart diseases in Hazara.
