Excise clerk held for taking Rs30, 000 bribe to reduce property tax


Burewala: An Excise Department clerk was arrested for allegedly demanding and receiving Rs30, 000 in bribe from a citizen in exchange for reducing the property tax on his property, officials said here Saturday.



According to Assistant Director Anti-Corruption Vehari Rao Faisalur Rehman, the accused, identified as Niaz Ahmed, allegedly demanded Rs30, 000 from the citizen for lowering the assessed property tax.



Acting on the citizen’s complaint, a team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment planned a raid and caught the accused red-handed while he was allegedly receiving the bribe, the official said.



A case has been registered against Niaz Ahmed, while further legal proceedings and investigation into the alleged bribery case are under way.
