District

Faisalabad:Faisalabad administration has intensified preparations to curb smog and industrial pollution ahead of the upcoming season while 10 more anti-smog guns would be provided in the district.

The authorities also reviewed tighter monitoring of industrial emissions, installation of CCTV cameras, use of quality fuel and deployment of additional anti-smog equipment.

In this connection, a meeting of representatives of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTMA) was held with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Enforcement) Murad Hussain Nekokara in the chair here on Wednesday. Deputy Director Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Dr Tahir Abbas and office-bearers of APTMA attended the meeting.

The participants reviewed measures for preventing smog, monitoring smoke emissions from industrial units, installing CCTV cameras, ensuring the use of standard-quality fuel and controlling environmental pollution.

The meeting was informed that 10 more anti-smog guns were being brought to Faisalabad to strengthen efforts against smog and air pollution.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Murad Hussain Nekokara stressed the need for taking effective preventive measures before the onset of smog rather than waiting for air quality to deteriorate. ‘A healthy and clean environment is a collective responsibility’, he said, urging industrial stakeholders to cooperate with the administration and environmental authorities in implementing measures aimed at reducing emissions.

He directed that CCTV cameras should be installed at industrial units for effective monitoring of smoke emissions and their live feeds should be provided to the relevant authorities. Compliance with the directions would be ensured in every case, he added.

He also stressed strict implementation of the ban on the use of substandard fuel, saying industries needed to adopt sustainable and environment friendly practices to protect public health and reduce pollution.

He said that cooperation from the industrial sector was essential for controlling smog and assured industrialists that no one would be subjected to undue hardship. However, he made it clear that compliance with environmental laws and regulations would be ensured without exception.

He also emphasized coordinated efforts between the district administration, environmental authorities and industrial representatives to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure timely corrective action against sources contributing to air pollution.
