Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) celebrated Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and a spirit of patriotism. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai hoisted the national flag at the university. A cake was also cut to celebrate the country’s independence. Afterward, an Azadi Walk was held under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor. Later on the Vice Chancellor inaugurated its historic library-the Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi Library-following its renovation.
Addressing the country’s independence celebrations, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai stated that it is a matter of pride for the people of the entire country-and especially for those associated with Sindh Madressatul Islam University-that a significant number of key leaders of the independence movement, alongside Pakistan’s founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, were educated at Sindh Madressatul Islam.
He stated that, in this capacity, Sindh Madressatul Islam University is a custodian of the country, and consequently, it bears commensurate responsibilities.
Paying a glowing tribute to Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he stated that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a truly great world leader who secured his country’s independence from the formidable British. He remarked on the profound wisdom of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who encapsulated a vast philosophy in just three words: Unity, Faith, and Discipline.
He remarked that today, on the country’s Independence Day, we must pledge that every individual will play their part in the nation’s development.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai also paid a glowing tribute to Khan Bahadur Hassan Ali Effendi, the founder of Sindh Madressatul Islam, an institution that produced Pakistan’s leadership.
On this occasion, Dr. Sahrai had a resolution passed calling for an increase in the education budget-spanning from the primary level to universities-because the country’s progress is linked to the advancement of education.
Deans of SMIU Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dr. Stephen John, and Senior Manager, Directorate of Students’ Affairs Dr. Qurratulain Memon also addressed the event. Dr. Qurratulain presented a report on the various programs organized by SMIU from August 1st to August 14th to celebrate Independence Day, while students performed patriotic songs. Vice Chancellor also presented certificates of recognition and trophies to students who had excelled in various programs and sports events organized by SMIU in connection with the Independence Day celebrations.
Deans, faculty members, heads of various academic and administrative departments, officers staff and students were present at the event.
