Peshawar: Former Provincial Minister for Population and Welfare, Salim Khan has said that the flash floods of August 3, 2026, have wreaked havoc across Chitral district, leaving the affected people in a state of distress and uncertainty.
Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club here on Friday, Salim Khan said the floods had caused widespread damage to homes, roads, bridges, agricultural land and other public infrastructure, severely disrupting the lives and livelihoods of local communities.
He stressed upon provincial and central governments to take notice of the situation and initiate relief measures at the earliest.
The infrastructure has been completely destroyed, hundreds of houses and bridges have been swept away in the floods, and Chitral is currently completely cut off from the world, Salim told newsmen.
The provincial fund of Rs. 53 crore for the 2022 floods has not reached Chitral till date, Salim alleged.
Three days have passed and neither any provincial minister has come nor have the NDMA and PDMA taken action, he added.
The central and provincial governments should declare an emergency in Chitral as soon as possible and start relief operations, otherwise they will be forced to protest, he demanded.
