Grand Health Alliance organizes protest rally

Hyderabad: A large number of doctors, paramedics and nurses staged a protest rally which started from Liaquat University Hospital and concluded outside Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday.

Led by Dr Niaz Babbar, Dr Mehboob Noonari, Dr Roshan Rasool Chandio and others, the participants chanted slogans demanding better security measures at the government hospitals, and adequate pay and allowances.

They said the senior doctors of general and management cadres should be posted on administrative positions.

The protesters called for providing a service structure and timely promotions to paramedical staff who also confront numerous other workplace challenges.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chandio said handing over management of government hospitals to private entities would offer no solution to the problems.

He added that the Sindh government should instead address the administrative problems which affect healthcare service delivery in the government hospitals.

The protest’s organizers announced that the health workers from around the province would gather in Karachi on September 2 for a grand protest.
