Islamabad: The Islamabad district administration has seized 1,450 kilogrammes of plastic bags and arrested six people during inspections of three plastic factories as part of its ongoing campaign to make the federal capital plastic-free.
The operation was conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Industrial Area in coordination with environmental teams. The six arrested included factory owners, according to the district administration.
The Environmental Protection Agency team also inspected all three factories to check compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). The action was part of a wider crackdown on factories involved in the production of plastic bags, launched on the instructions of the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner.
The district administration said enforcement activities under the Zero Plastic Islamabad campaign would continue across the city on a daily basis. The campaign aims to reduce plastic pollution and protect the environment from its harmful effects.
The administration has urged shopkeepers and residents to support the campaign and play their part in making Islamabad plastic-free.
Officials said action against factories producing plastic bags would continue alongside inspections and enforcement measures across the federal capital.
The district administration reiterated that the campaign was intended to prevent plastic pollution and limit its environmental impact. It also called on businesses and citizens to cooperate with the authorities in implementing the restrictions on plastic bags.
The latest operation forms part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to enforce the plastic bag ban and promote a cleaner environment in Islamabad.
