Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed the relevant authorities to provide former National Cyber Crime Investigation (NCCI) Director General Waqaruddin Syed with the charge sheet and details of the allegations against him within five working days.
Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar issued the directions while hearing miscellaneous applications related to an inquiry and a show-cause notice issued against the former NCCI director general.
During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner argued that although an inquiry had been initiated and a show-cause notice had been served, his client had not yet been informed about the specific allegations against him.
The counsel contended that the petitioner could not prepare an effective defense without being provided with the charge sheet and details of the allegations. He requested the court to direct the inquiry committee to furnish all relevant documents.
The chief justice summoned Deputy Attorney General Mian Faisal Irfan, who was present in the courtroom, and remarked that the petitioner should be provided with the relevant documents to enable him to defend himself.
The court subsequently ordered the authorities to provide the documents within five working days.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that another petition filed by his client was also pending. However, the chief justice observed that the court’s order had rendered the contempt petition ineffective.
