ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court directed Ministry of Education to submit a detailed report on Islamic content, including the Holy Quran, that is being taught in schools at all levels.
The divisional bench of the court, consisting of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, heard the petition advocating for the mandatory teaching of the Holy Quran with translation in schools.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Aneeq Khatana, stated that Holy Quran teaching with translation and Islamic history had been made mandatory in Punjab as per the Constitution Act of 2017, but it had not yet been implemented at the federal level.
In response to the argument presented by the petitioner’s lawyer, the official from the Ministry of Education stated that Quran recitation with translation was already being taught in both private and public schools.
The court ordered the submission of a detailed report on the Islamic content that was being taught in schools and adjourned the hearing till November 14.
