Bahawalpur: The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at its Abbasia Campus, where Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran hoisted the national flag and joined faculty, staff and students in singing the national anthem.
Addressing the ceremony, the vice chancellor said Independence Day was a glorious chapter in Pakistan’s history and an occasion to thank Allah Almighty for the blessing of freedom. He paid tribute to the armed forces and urged youth to contribute to national development through education, research, innovation and responsible citizenship.
As part of the celebrations, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran planted saplings under the ‘Plant for Quaid’ initiative, while saplings were also distributed among children. An Independence Day cake-cutting ceremony was also held.
The vice chancellor attended an Independence Day programme for special children organized by HHRD, where gifts were distributed. Saylani Welfare International Trust also distributed gifts among Grade-IV employees of IUB.
The university also launched its newly developed website and the website of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Center. A poetry competition was also organized at the Prime Minister Youth Development Center.
Similar flag-hoisting and tree plantation ceremonies were held at IUB’s Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan campuses, with faculty, employees and students participating.
