Karachi: Karachi police arrested more than 776 suspects during a week-long anti-crime drive across the city’s East, West and South zones, recovering illegal weapons, drugs and stolen vehicles,
During the week, district police engaged in 25 encounters with suspected criminals. Three suspects were killed and 24 injured in exchanges of fire, while 35 suspects, including the injured, were arrested, a police spokesperson said on Monday.
Police recovered 32 illegal weapons of different types and 11 motorcycles from the arrested suspects.
During the anti-drug campaign and encounters, police also seized 18.555 kilogrammes of hashish, 2.675 kilogrammes of ice/crystal meth and heroin, with the recovered drugs estimated to be worth millions of rupees.
A further 114 illegal weapons of various types along with ammunition, allegedly used in street crime and other offences, were recovered from arrested suspects.
Police operations in different areas also led to the recovery of 37 snatched and stolen motorcycles and three vehicles.
The Karachi police said operations would continue to curb crime, restore law and order and protect the lives and property of citizens.
