Karachi: Karachi police have banned the use of promotional material highlighting individual officers or their personal image, directing all units to focus official publicity on the institution’s identity, public service and performance.
According to a circular issued on Monday by Additional Inspector General Karachi Azad Khan, all police units and concerned officers have been directed to ensure that official publicity highlights the institutional identity of Karachi Police rather than any individual.
The circular prohibits the use of photographs or portraits of police officers on banners, billboards, hoardings, posters, standees, backdrops, advertisements and other promotional material.
The restriction also applies to promotional material displayed on police vehicles, outside police buildings and at other public places, as well as content published on social media, electronic media and other media platforms.
It stated that the purpose of official publicity was not to promote individual officers but to highlight the overall performance and public services of the police, important initiatives, achievements and public awareness messages.
However, photographs of police martyrs may be used respectfully and with due dignity at official memorial ceremonies, tributes, memorials and other authorised occasions.
The circular directed all concerned officers to ensure strict compliance with the orders. In case of a violation, responsibility would be determined and action taken against those found responsible.
The Karachi Police said their primary objective was to strengthen the institution’s service, performance and public trust rather than promote any individual.
