Karachi: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall law and order situation and security arrangements across the province.
The meeting, held at the Central Police Office, was attended in person by Additional Inspectors General of Karachi, Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Operations, as well as Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Establishment, CTD, Special Protection Unit (SPU) and Special Branch, Assistant Inspectors General and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs). Zonal and divisional DIGs and district SSPs participated via video link, said a news release.
The participants were given a detailed briefing on the overall security situation in Karachi and other parts of the province. The meeting also reviewed security arrangements for Operation Nijat-e-Mehran, foreign nationals, Rabi-ul-Awwal gatherings, important events and public religious gatherings.
Additional IGP Karachi said effective strategies and a comprehensive plan were being implemented to maintain law and order and curb crime in the city. He added that comprehensive and concrete security measures had been put in place for public events, gatherings and religious congregations.
The IGP directed police officers to ensure extraordinary security measures in Karachi in view of public events and the prevailing situation. He ordered that snap checking, patrolling and picketing across the city be further strengthened and suspicious activities closely monitored.
He directed officers to maintain the gains achieved through Operation Nijat-e-Mehran and keep a close watch on criminal elements and their possible networks in the riverine areas.
Javed Alam Odho ordered strict and indiscriminate action against elements attempting to disrupt law and order and directed police officers and personnel to remain fully alert until crime was completely eliminated.
He stressed that no negligence or lapse in the security of foreign nationals would be tolerated. The IGP also directed all officers to personally visit the field and inspect security arrangements, ensure timely corrective measures and properly brief subordinate staff while maintaining effective supervision of personnel deployed on duty.
