Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought responses from the Punjab government and other authorities on a petition seeking fixation of a support price for wheat.
Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad heard a petition filed by Kisan Board President Sardar Zafar Hussain, challenging the government’s failure to announce a wheat support price.
The petitioner contended that the government had neither announced its wheat policy nor fixed a support price, leaving farmers in a state of uncertainty.
He submitted that the absence of a support price could discourage farmers from cultivating wheat and lead to a reduction in the area under cultivation.
The petitioner urged the court to direct the government to announce a wheat policy and fix a support price for the crop.
After hearing the initial arguments, the court issued notices to the government and other concerned authorities, seeking their responses.
