Burewala: The 68th martyrdom anniversary of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) was observed on Saturday with the nation and armed forces paying rich tribute to the national hero for his supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland.
General Officer Commanding Major General Nauman Manzoor Awan visited the mausoleum of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed in Tufailabad and laid a floral wreath on behalf of the President of Pakistan and Chief of Army Staff. Prayers were also offered for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks and the progress, prosperity and well-being of the country.
Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed embraced martyrdom on August 8, 1958, while fighting Indian forces valiantly at Lakshmipur. Despite sustaining serious wounds, he continued his mission with remarkable courage and determination and ensured its successful completion. In recognition of his exceptional gallantry and supreme sacrifice, he was awarded the Nishan-i-Haider, the country’s highest military honour.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and the Armed Forces of Pakistan paid tribute to the martyr. The Pakistani nation and armed forces also honoured Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed and all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, saying their courage, patriotism and devotion would continue to inspire future generations and guide every defender of the motherland in the discharge of duty.
