ISLAMABAD: Managing Director (MD) of the National Book Foundation Dr. Raja Mazhar Hameed on Wednesday opened its book corners to foreign countries to exchange the culture of reading books and to provide an environment to promote reading habits in future generations.
Talking to the PTV news channel, he stressed that reading books is important for everybody to cope with new knowledge in the changing world of the technological age.
He further said that the aim of NBF is to promote book reading culture in different countries and organize exhibitions at national and international levels.
He appreciated the efforts of NBF and the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies in the way of book culture promotion and literary activities in the country.
Besides the government, all segments of society need to play an effective role in the promotion of book-reading habits in the country, he added.
In response to a question, he said that book corners of different countries will help our children to understand the values ??and cultures of each community and lead to mutual coexistence.
National Book Foundation (NBF) has taken various initiatives to launch a series of innovative projects to promote book reading culture, he said, adding, recently NBF had opened an Indonesia book corner which helps learn about the culture of this country.
NBF always provide a free-of-cost conducive and enriched supportive academic environment to authors either writing for children, school and college-going students or at the university level, he mentioned.
National Book Foundation believes in creativity leading to premier quality academic and scholastic resources to masses about fiction, non-fiction, applied sciences and pure sciences and to disseminate effective professional educational and literary content within the country and across the globe, he added.
NBF also conducts various book fairs, and festivals, and publishes books of local and international writers and entertainment magazines besides providing books at discounted rates not just for the public but for private school students, he said.
He further explained that the foundation has also established several libraries including, a children’s library, a women’s library, a general reading library, a national book museum and summer camps for children.
