Minister pledges reforms to boost food security, rural economy


Astore: An introductory and reception meeting was held at the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, in honour of newly appointed Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Anwar Ali.



The meeting was attended by the Secretary Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, senior officers and members of the department’s administrative team.



On the occasion, the Secretary Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries warmly welcomed Minister Anwar Ali and introduced him to the senior officers and administrative team of the department.



The Secretary gave the minister a detailed briefing on the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries sectors and highlighted their vital role in ensuring food security, strengthening the rural economy, creating employment opportunities and promoting overall economic development in Gilgit-Baltistan.



He also briefed the minister on the vision of the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and the reform agenda being pursued by the department. He said efforts were underway to modernize the agriculture sector, promote livestock and fisheries, increase agricultural and livestock production, expand value addition and create new business opportunities.



He particularly highlighted the department’s focus on creating sustainable employment opportunities for youth and women through development of these sectors.



The Secretary expressed hope that under the political leadership and guidance of Minister Anwar Ali, the department’s reform agenda would be implemented more effectively and its benefits would reach farmers, livestock owners, fishermen and local communities across Gilgit-Baltistan.



Addressing the meeting, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Anwar Ali appreciated the detailed departmental briefing and directed that all departmental affairs be conducted strictly in accordance with merit, law, rules, regulations and the principles of transparency.



He urged the officers to perform their duties with dedication, integrity and professionalism, while making public service their top priority.



The minister expressed his firm commitment to the development of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries sectors and said that no effort would be spared for the welfare of farmers and livestock owners, increasing agricultural production and bringing the sector in line with modern requirements.



He said that under the government’s vision of ‘From Farms to Future,’ practical measures would be taken to promote modern agricultural practices, enhance production, create new employment opportunities and improve the economic well-being of the people.



Anwar Ali observed that Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries could play a pivotal role in the economy of Gilgit-Baltistan and stressed the need to further strengthen these sectors through effective planning, modern technology and sustainable development initiatives.



At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister, secretary and departmental officers reaffirmed their commitment to working as a team and through mutual cooperation to transform Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries into strong pillars of employment generation, food security, self-reliance and economic prosperity in Gilgit-Baltistan.
