MIRPUR(AJK): At the last leg of the monsoon, the heaviest spell of torrential rainfall coupled with strong winds and thunder in certain parts of AJK including the lakeside Mirpur district late Friday provided respite from the intolerable heat but also brought miseries with power supply to several parts of Mirpur city besides various other parts of the division getting snapped.
People across the entire Mirpur region took a sigh of relief from the summer days as the area experienced perhaps last spell of heavy rainfall wee hours of Wednesday which led to improvement in the prevailing weather conditions to a considerable extent reducing the temperature to a greater extent.
Like the previous days about a week ago sudden clouds again started hovering late Friday and strong winds began to sweep the major parts of the region.
The strong winds, which resulted in the snapping of power supply to some parts of Mirpur division comprising Mirpur, Bhimbher and Kotli districts, especially in Mirpur city, were followed by rainfall thereby once again providing relief to the people of sweltering heat besides causing great inconvenience.
According to the reports from different parts of the division, already hit by the frequent unscheduled power outages the power supply got badly affected due to winds with uprooting of trees and poles of local supply lines getting partially affected mostly due to the felling of the trees and their branches.
Heavy rain occurred in the city and rest of the district early this morning which lasted for several hours intermittently till Saturday morning.
