Lodhran: A mock exercise was conducted at District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital to assess preparedness for dealing with a possible fire or other emergency situation.
The exercise was aimed at ensuring an effective response to any untoward incident and improving coordination among medical staff, Rescue 1122 and other relevant departments. The mock drill was conducted in the nursery ward of PIMS Hospital, simulating a fire emergency.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Muhammad Tayyab, Assistant Commissioner Farrukhullah Khan, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Shakeel Ahmed, Medical Superintendent Dr. Aurangzeb, Chaudhry Ghanimat Ali and other concerned officials attended the exercise.
During the drill, arrangements for the timely and safe evacuation of patients, rescue operations and firefighting were reviewed. Different stages of an emergency response-including the immediate response of relevant teams, safe evacuation of people and provision of first aid and medical treatment to the injured-were practically demonstrated.
Rescue 1122 personnel also demonstrated firefighting, rescue and emergency relief procedures, while the hospital’s paramedical staff performed their assigned responsibilities for providing immediate medical assistance to patients.
Speaking on the occasion, ADCR Muhammad Tayyab said protection of human lives was the foremost priority during any emergency. He stressed that all relevant departments must remain fully prepared to discharge their responsibilities at all times.
He said advance preparations were essential for effectively dealing with emergencies in hospitals, adding that strong coordination and timely communication among all concerned departments were crucial for saving lives during an emergency.
