Bahawalpur: A meeting of the District Emergency Response Committee for Anti-Dengue was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to review measures being taken by various departments to prevent the spread of dengue in the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Municipal Services) Dr Ayesha Khan chaired the meeting. The Health Department briefed the meeting on the current dengue situation, ongoing field activities and preventive measures being implemented across the district.
Dr Ayesha Khan said the prevailing weather conditions were particularly conducive to the breeding of dengue larvae, making it essential for all relevant departments to take proactive and effective preventive measures. She directed anti-dengue teams to remain fully active in the field and ensure regular inspections of potential breeding sites. She called for special surveillance of graveyards, tyre shops and other identified hotspots, with immediate measures to eliminate larvae wherever found.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner stressed that public awareness was as important as departmental activities in preventing dengue. She directed the relevant authorities to make effective use of all available publicity and communication channels, organize awareness seminars and walks, and educate citizens about preventing stagnant water around homes, shops and commercial establishments. She also directed officials to ensure timely disposal of scrap materials and keep a close watch on locations where accumulation of water could create conditions conducive to dengue larvae breeding.
Dr Ayesha Khan ordered special cleanliness arrangements at government offices and directed officials to ensure that no stagnant water was allowed to accumulate anywhere on official premises. She made it clear that all relevant departments must perform their responsibilities effectively through close coordination and maintain continuous and effective monitoring of anti-dengue field activities. Officers from relevant district departments and focal persons for anti-dengue activities attended the meeting.
