Islamabad: More rain-wind/thundershower, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, is expected in upper parts of the country, particularly the Pothohar region and Islamabad/Rawalpindi, on September 4 and 5, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in a weather advisory issued Wednesday.
According to the PMD, monsoon currents were penetrating the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave was also affecting the upper areas and is likely to strengthen on September 4 and 5.
Under the influence of the weather system, rain-wind/thundershower with isolated heavyfalls is expected in Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur, from September 3 to 6 with occasional gaps.
In Islamabad and upper Punjab, rain-wind/thundershower with isolated heavy to very heavy falls was expected in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Hafizabad and Kasur from September 3 to 5.
The PMD forecast rain-wind/thundershower in Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas on September 4 and 5, with occasional gaps.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-wind/thundershower with scattered heavy to very heavy falls is expected in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, D.I. Khan, Bannu and Waziristan from the evening/night of September 3 to September 5.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, moderate rain-wind/thundershower with isolated heavyfalls is expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from September 3 to 6.
Mainly hot and humid weather is expected to prevail in most parts of Sindh and Balochistan. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel and adjoining areas.
The PMD warned that heavy to very heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Lahore on September 4 and 5.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall may also trigger flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi during the forecast period.
The department cautioned that landslides may occur in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir.
Tourists and travelers have been advised to remain cautious during the forecast period, while farmers have been advised to plan crop-related activities keeping in view the expected weather conditions.
All concerned authorities have been advised to remain alert and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period.
