More than Rs. 7.5bln allocated for 121 development schemes of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur: Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, measures are being taken to improve public facilities and ensure timely completion of development projects in Bahawalpur.



A meeting to review development projects was held under the chairmanship of Chairman District Coordination Committee and Member of the Provincial Assembly Mian Muhammad Shoaib Owaisi. Former MPA Muhammad Afzal Gul, Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hasan Raza and officers of the relevant departments attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed progress on ongoing and new development schemes being implemented in Bahawalpur under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27.



The participants were informed that 121 development schemes had been approved for Bahawalpur under the ADP 2026-27, with a combined estimated cost of Rs75.510 billion. The schemes included 107 ongoing and seven new projects. The meeting was further informed that Rs7.526 billion had been allocated for development schemes during the current financial year, of which Rs3.064 billion had so far been released. Of the released funds, Rs1.384 billion had been utilized. Twenty-five development schemes had been completed in the district, while work on 60 schemes was progressing rapidly.



The meeting also reviewed financial utilization and progress on development schemes being implemented by various departments. Participants were informed that 100 per cent utilization of funds released for a development scheme of Emergency Services had been ensured, while fund utilization for development schemes of the Police and Home Department stood at 62 per cent and 84 per cent, respectively.



The meeting expressed satisfaction over progress on development works of the Higher Education, School Education and Livestock departments. According to the briefing, one Livestock development scheme had been completed, while work on other projects was underway. Progress on development schemes of the Board of Revenue, Tourism and Forestry departments was also reviewed.



Chairman District Coordination Committee Mian Muhammad Shoaib Owaisi directed the relevant authorities to ensure timely issuance of demand notices for filtration plants. He said transparency, quality and timely completion of development projects were among the top priorities. He directed the concerned officers to effectively monitor progress on development schemes and ensure achievement of targets within the stipulated timeframe. Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hasan Raza directed the relevant departments to further accelerate work on all development projects. He said no compromise would be made on the timely completion or quality of the schemes. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned departments to ensure timely completion of development schemes and effective utilization of allocated funds.
