Lahore: The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab marked the completion of 30 years of public service with a special ceremony held at its Lahore head office here on Tuesday. The event celebrated the institution’s achievements in protecting citizens’ rights, promoting transparency and accountability, and ensuring effective redressal of administrative grievances.
Advisors and consultants serving at the Ombudsman Punjab’s regional offices across the province participated in the ceremony and paid tribute to the institution’s three-decade journey and its contribution to providing relief to citizens facing administrative injustices.
Addressing the ceremony, Ombudsman Punjab Ayesha Hamid highlighted the institution’s major achievements and institutional progress over the past 30 years. She said the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab had played an important role in upholding the rule of law, discouraging corruption and addressing maladministration in government departments. She said the institution would continue taking measures to make the public complaint redressal mechanism more effective, accessible, transparent and citizen-friendly.
Ayesha Hamid appreciated the performance of officers and staff at the regional offices, saying they were the backbone of the institution’s public outreach and played a key role in ensuring the timely resolution of citizens’ complaints.
Secretary Ombudsman Punjab Qaiser Saleem, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the institution’s growing cooperation with ombudsman organizations in Asian and European countries. He said international linkages, study visits and exchange of experiences were contributing to enhanced institutional capacity and the adoption of best practices. He said reciprocal visits between officials of the Ombudsman Punjab and their counterparts in friendly countries were facilitating professional exchanges, strengthening institutional relations and projecting a positive image of Pakistan.
The participants stressed the need to further strengthen the institution’s three-decade legacy by improving facilities for the protection of citizens’ rights, promoting transparency in government departments and ensuring timely redressal of administrative injustices.
