IUB student honoured

Bahawalpur: A student of Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) was honoured with "Youth Icon Award" on her role in efforts for youth empowerment.

According to an official press release, Nimra Mahmood, a student of Islamia University Bahawalpur, has been awarded Youth Icon Award. The award was given away to her by the Youth Parliament Summitt.

Nimra was assigned the task by the varisty to work for the IUB Character Building Society. She as President, IUB Character Building Society, worked on project 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dr. Adnan Bukhari, Adviser to IUB Character Building Society. appreciated Nimra for playing a pivotal role in running a campaign for youth empowerment.

DC injured in firing on Gov’t vehicles in Kurram

Islamabad: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Javedullah Mehsood was injured in the firing on a convoy of government vehicles in Bagan Bazaar of Kurram district on Saturday.

According to a private news channel, the incident happened when the first convoy left after many days to restore the movement of people between Kurram.

When the convoy left and reached Irfan Kali in Alizai tehsil, the convoy was fired upon, in which DC Kurram Javedullah and a security official were reported to have been injured.

The DC has been shifted to the Alizai government hospital in an injured condition.

Health minister announces modern treatment facilities at Mayo Cancer Care Hospital


Lahore: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has pledged to provide state-of-the-art treatment and care facilities to cancer patients at the Mayo Cancer Care Hospital Manawan.



The minister expressed these views during a visit to the hospital, affiliated with King Edward Medical University, on Saturday. He reviewed ongoing construction work and assessed the medical facilities available for cancer patients.



Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that the Mayo Cancer Care Hospital Manawan is a dedicated government facility for cancer treatment and care in Punjab. He praised the hospital staff, calling them hardworking and professional, and announced steps to extend their contracts. He further highlighted that senior faculty at the hospital is actively providing services to patients.



‘In the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, we are committed to delivering the best health facilities to the people,’ the minister said. He directed the Communication and Works (CandW) Department to expedite the hospital’s revamping process to ensure timely completion.



During his visit, the minister toured various sections of the hospital, including the slip counter, facility desk, cancer emergency ward, chemotherapy clinic, pharmacy, lab, oncology outpatient department, surgical oncology clinic, and nursing counters. He also reviewed the progress of the ongoing revamping project in detail.



Professor Waseem Hayat Khan, CEO of Mayo Cancer Care Hospital Manawan, briefed the minister about the hospital’s operations and the treatment provided to patients. Other notable attendees included Parliamentary Secretary Rushda Lodhi, Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University Professor Mahmood Ayaz, and senior medical professionals, including Professor Abrar Ashraf, Professor Abbas Khokhar, Dr. Zainab Zubair, Dr. Zeeshan Khan Niazi, and others.

Bhutto’s 97th birth anniversary on 5th

Sargodha: The Pakistan Peoples Party will commemorate the 97th birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with great zeal and respect across the country.

Various events will be held nationwide to honour the founder of the PPP and his unparalleled contributions to the country's democracy and development. He served as the fourth president of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973 and later as the ninth prime minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977. Talking to reporter, PPP leader Mateen Ahmed Qureshi said that the main event would take place on January 5 at Chak No. 72, SB Moazzamabad Road, in which former Federal Minister of State Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi would participate as the chief guest. Ceremonies featuring cake-cutting and tributes to Bhutto's legacy would be organized across all tehsils of the district. Former State Minister Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for his immense sacrifices for the nation's progress, stability, and democratic continuity. "Today's democracy in Pakistan owes its roots to the relentless efforts of the PPP's founder," he added.

Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital to be first fully functional hospital in its type : Salman Rafique

Lahore: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has announced that the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Center will be the first fully functional government cancer hospital in Pakistan.

During a visit to the project site on Saturday, he reviewed ongoing progress and received a detailed briefing on the master plan from the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) officers.

The minister revealed that the state-of-the-art 915-bed facility will be completed in two phases. 'Level three and level four cancer patients will be treated free of charge, Inshallah,' he stated. He directed IDAP to make the hospital operational within 12 months.

He said that the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Institute will include pediatric oncology, operation theaters, 10 radiation therapy bunkers, an ICU, and a 30-bed emergency ward in the first phase. A waiting hall, 24 additional beds, residential areas for patients, a bone marrow center, cancer care clinic, doctor residences, and a mosque will also be part of this phase. He said that a 300-bed building and a parking plaza will be constructed in the second phase. He said the hospital will provide advanced treatment, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, endoscopy, and other specialized services.

'This cancer hospital is not just for Punjab but for the whole of Pakistan. Patients from KPK, Sindh, and other provinces will also receive free treatment here,' said the minister. He emphasized that cancer treatment is a pressing issue affecting every segment of society, as even the wealthy find their resources drained by the disease.

The minister also shared plans to establish cardiology, neurology, pediatric, and dialysis centers in every city of Punjab. 'No cancer patient will be denied treatment. Every project that improves the lives of people is our top priority,' he added.

Officers from IDAP and contractors involved in the project were present during the visit.

Man arrested for playing loud music

Sargodha: Police apprehended an owner of a furniture showroom in Buchha Kalan village over the violation of the Sound System Act. According to police, Amanullah was taken into custody after complaints from local residents about excessive noise levels emanating from a tape recorder at his showroom. It was alleged that Amanullah had been causing disturbance to the neighborhood by playing music at a high volume from his sound system. Acting upon the complaints, the police arrived at the scene and arrested the accused, subsequently filing a case against him.
