Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to celebrate August 2026 as a month-long Independence Day festival on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with a wide range of national, cultural, sports and entertainment events to be held across the province.
As part of the preparations, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz on Friday briefed Adviser to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik on the arrangements for Independence Day celebrations in the provincial capital. The meeting reviewed a comprehensive action plan covering sports competitions, cultural programmes, national events and family entertainment activities.
The deputy commissioner said Independence Day would be celebrated in Lahore with patriotic zeal and grandeur, adding that the planned events would promote national unity, patriotism and public participation.
He said the month-long celebrations would feature sports competitions, cultural programmes, family entertainment activities, cultural concerts, fireworks displays, illuminations and special decorative lighting across the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Zeeshan Malik said that, in line with the chief minister’s directives, Lahore would serve as the focal point of the province’s Independence Day celebrations.
He said the city would host a series of major national, cultural and recreational events throughout August to provide quality entertainment while fostering the spirit of patriotism.
The adviser said promoting national unity, patriotism and love for the national flag remained a top priority of the Punjab government, adding that citizens would be encouraged to participate wholeheartedly in the Independence Day celebrations.
