Lahore: Pakistan Railways Police registered 2,241 cases and arrested 2,581 suspects during the last six months, it was informed at an SRPs Conference held at the Central Police Office on Thursday.
The conference was chaired by Inspector General (IG) Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan and reviewed the performance of the Railways Police, crime situation and key professional matters during the period.
The IG directed officers to take more effective and indiscriminate legal action against criminal elements and ordered a strict crackdown on mafias and organised networks involved in smuggling illegal goods through trains.
He also directed strict legal action against private cargo companies found involved in smuggling, including cancellation of their licences.
The conference reviewed preparations for a large-scale anti-encroachment operation against illegal occupants of railway land. All SPs were directed to identify encroached railway land in coordination with Divisional Superintendents of Railways (DSRs) and prepare detailed reports. The Special Branch was also ordered to compile a comprehensive report on valuable railway land under illegal occupation.
The IG said corruption by personnel deployed on train patrols would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed that departmental as well as legal action be taken against officials found involved in corruption without discrimination.
He further ordered the upgrading of Railways Police help centres and directed that competent and efficient personnel be deployed there to ensure prompt and improved services for passengers.
The conference was attended by the DIG North and Headquarters, AIG Administration, SP Lines and SPs of all divisions.
In recognition of outstanding performance, SP Sukkur Sana-ur-Rehman and Lahore Investigation Officer Inspector Akram were awarded certificates of appreciation.
