Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is moving towards final enforcement action against housing schemes that have failed to complete and submit the required legal documentation despite being served notices and given an opportunity to fulfil the prescribed requirements.
Sources said the concerned housing schemes had earlier been directed to complete their legal requirements and submit the requisite documents to the RDA within the stipulated period. However, the required documentation has not yet been submitted by the concerned managements, despite the notices already issued to them.
The RDA is now considering issuance of final notices to such housing schemes, after which enforcement teams would visit their respective sites and take action in accordance with the applicable laws and rules.
The proposed action would also cover the site offices and other on-ground activities of housing schemes found operating without completing the required legal and regulatory formalities.
The development comes amid intensified monitoring of housing schemes in areas falling under RDA jurisdiction. The authority has recently been directed to regularly review the status of approved and unapproved housing schemes, verify land-use and development records and take timely action against unauthorised development and other violations.
The RDA has already taken enforcement action against a number of illegal housing schemes and unauthorised developments, including demolition of illegally constructed infrastructure and action against site offices. In September, the authority also issued show-cause notices to housing schemes over alleged violations relating to approved layouts, marketing and booking of plots.
Officials said the purpose of the latest move was not only to enforce the applicable regulations but also to ensure that housing schemes operating within the RDA-controlled area maintained complete and verifiable legal documentation.
The authority has also been emphasising field monitoring, geo-tagging and regular verification of records so that unauthorised development or marketing activity could be identified and dealt with at an early stage.
The RDA has repeatedly advised citizens to verify the legal status and approval of a housing scheme before purchasing plots or making any investment.
