Mirpur: Director General Tourism and Archaeology AJK Raja Shahid Hussain on Friday reviewed progress on the restoration and tourism development of historic Ramkot Fort, including resort construction, improved access routes, fencing, landscaping and provision of essential facilities for visitors, officials said.
Representatives of a private firm briefed the DG on ongoing works under the lease agreement, including construction of a resort, repair and fencing of access routes, seating arrangements, cleanliness, basic tourist facilities and conservation of the historic fort. Assistant Director Tourism and Archaeology Qamar Ayub also briefed him on the existing condition of the site and departmental measures for its restoration and preservation.
Raja Shahid Hussain inspected various sections of the fort and reviewed conservation and renovation works, access routes, fencing, tourist information signage, landscaping, cleanliness, visitor facilities, progress on resort construction and overall site management. He also sought details about delays in implementing projects agreed under the lease agreement.
The DG also directed the private firm to ensure timely completion of all agreed projects in accordance with contractual terms and provide the stipulated facilities for tourists. He said development of Ramkot Fort should preserve its historical character while improving visitor services and tourism infrastructure, enabling the heritage site to emerge as a well-managed destination and contribute to the promotion of tourism in the region.
