South Punjab business fraternity calls for economic taskforce formation

MULTAN:Different Chambers of Commerce and Industry and associations of South Punjab called for constitution of economic task force for country’s financial health improvement.

Addressing a joint news conference at MCCI here on Thursday evening,

preventatives of DG Khan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Jhang and Khanewal Chambers and APBUMA, Cotton Ginners and other associations said two-third of taskforce should consist of apolitical technocrats racially from universities and one third from business fraternity.

They said that the parliament should give legal cover to the taskforce and its policies should continue despite change in governments.

They appealed all political parties to join hands for long term “Charter of Economy” for strengthening the economy.

They expressed concerns over monitoring role of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) over commercial banks for exchange rate of dollar adding that the central bank should make its mystery shopping more effective in this regard.

Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president, Khawaja Muhammad Hussain stated that economic challenges faced by the country could only be faced when all political forces sit together to rid the country of hard circumstances.

He categorically refuted the impression that Pakistan was going to be default and added that ups and down were part of countries history.

He stated that representatives of chambers and associations held two hours detailed deliberated on the economic situation of the country and came up for several proposals for betterment of it.

Convener ARCA, Khawaja Muhammad Yousuf noted that acting governor SBP denied the rumours circulating on social media about default of the country in a media briefing a few days back.

He regretted that there was no check and balance on social media platforms which is not in favour of the country.

He also termed charter of economy the right solution for improvement of financial health of the country.

Among others SVP, Sohail Tufail, former office bearers of MCCI, Tanvir A Sheikh, Fareed A Sheikh, Iftikhar Ali Shah, Israr Shah,

PCGA president Sohail Haral, Sheikh Asim Saeed were present.
