Swimming, picnics, boating banned in Swat River

District

Peshawar: District Magistrate Swat Sohail Ahmad Khan on Wednesday imposed a complete ban on swimming, picnicking and boating in the Swat River and its tributaries for 30 days to prevent drowning incidents and protect human lives.

The district administration has also issued a notification enforcing Section 144 across the district with immediate effect.

According to the notification, the restriction was imposed in the public interest in view of increasing incidents of drowning in the river and the risk of further loss of life.

The administration said the ban would also help protect river water from pollution caused by unnecessary activities.

The restriction will remain in force for one month. Violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and other relevant laws.
