MULTAN:Third annual elections were held for the formation of School Councils comprising the president, vice president and general secretary in public sector schools across South Punjab here on Thursday.
As many as 14,469 presidents, vice presidents, general secretaries and class representatives were elected from 4823 schools across the region.
Over 1.2 million students polled their votes to elect their favourite candidates in the elections.
After the declaration of results, supporters of winners danced to the tune of drum beats.
The main object of the councils will be the development and nurturing of leadership skills, reviving of co-curricular activities, training for meeting responsibilities and introducing democracy and democratic norms among students of public schools.
Secretary School Education Department (SED), Rana Muhammad. Saleem Khan witnessed the polling process in Vehari while Additional Secretary, Agha Zaheer Abbas Sheerazi reviewed the process of polling along with other officials of the education department in Multan.
Speaking on the occasion Rana Saleem stated that it was a healthy activity among students to make them useful citizens in days to come.
He informed that the councils would help students commending over decision making.
