LAHORE:An appellate tribunal on Sunday dismissed the appeal against rejection of nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed for national and provincial assemblies constituencies.
The tribunal comprising Justice Tariq Nadeem heard the appeals and upheld returning officer decision to reject her nomination papers for constituencies NA-119, NA-120 and PP-150.
The tribunal announced the verdict after hearing detailed arguments of the parties.
Sanam Javed’s counsel argued that his client was eligible to contest the elections but the returning officer illegally rejected the nomination papers of his client. He pleaded with the tribunal to set aside the decision of the returning officer and accept nomination papers.
However, respondent’s counsel submitted that Sanam Javed did not qualify to contest elections as she mentioned a joint account in her nomination papers. He submitted that as per rules, a candidate must have a separate account for his election expenses. He requested to di
smiss the appeals and upheld returning officer decision.
Sanam Javed had challenged the returning officer’s decision of rejecting his nomination papers from NA-119, NA-120 and PP 150.
