Karachi: The ceremony to mark the 80thIndependence Day in University of Karachi began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by Hamd and Naat, a one-minute silence, and a flag-hoisting performed by the KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail, held on the lawn in front of the KU’s Administration Building on the occasion of the 79th Independence Anniversary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Friday.
The event was attended by all Deans of Faculties, KU Registrar Professor Dr Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, a large number of faculty members, and administrative staff.
Speaking on the occasion, KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail said that Pakistan came into existence as a result of the timeless sacrifices of our elders and forefathers, who, after fulfilling their responsibilities, entrusted the task of nation-building and development to the present generation.
He said that responsibility is a profoundly weighty word, and realizing its importance, we must seriously evaluate our roles and duties. He remarked that it depends on us how history will remember us, whether in good words or bad.
The KU VC Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail shared that in the past, nations were conquered through sheer force, but in the present era, technology has completely transformed the global landscape. ‘Technology plays a decisive role in elevating nations to the heights of progress or dragging them into decline.’
He emphasized that we must seriously reflect on how far we are aligning our future generations with technology, because distancing ourselves from modern technology can obstruct our progress and ultimately lead to destruction.
The KU VC Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail said that the Pakistan Resolution was passed in 1940, and within a short span of merely seven years, the establishment of an independent country, though seemingly impossible, was achieved.
He observed that at that time, the leadership and the nation possessed firm resolve, unwavering commitment, and the absolute conviction that the creation of Pakistan must be realized at all costs.
The KU VC Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail added that if we too adopt the same spirit of determination and action, and firmly decide to bring positive change in our country and society, with every individual recognizing and sincerely fulfilling his responsibility, there is no reason why we cannot achieve the desired transformation.
