WDD launches 16-day campaign on women’ rights

LAHORE: The Punjab Women Development Department (WDD) launched a 16-day global

campaign on the theme of ‘UNiTE! Invest to prevent violence against women

and girls’ here on Saturday.

WDD Secretary Sumaira Samad along with other stakeholders inaugurated the

drive at Minar-e-Pakistan by releasing orange balloons in the air.

The annual drive is starting from Nov 25 and will be concluded on Dec 10. A set of activities

will be conducted under the drive to address and prevent gender-based violence.

Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) Secretary Nabila Javed, Additional Secretary

Rizwana Urooj Bhatti, Deputy Secretary Abdulla Ziqria and others were also present.

Addressing on the occasion, WDD Secretary Sumaira Samad stressed the need for establishment

of violence free society which was free from all kind of discrimination and injustice.

She mentioned that her department was actively working with international organisations to educate

people against gender-base violence and invest to prevent v
iolence against women.
