Haleem terms PPP’s protest as a bid to hoodwink masses

Karachi

KARACHI: Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh on Friday, termed PPP’s protest against dearness as a futile effort of pulling the wool over eyes of the masses.

Haleem Adil Sheikh, in a statement issued here, said that Bilawal Zardari and PPP Sindh government were responsible of rapidly rising prices of essential food items particularly wheat and wheat flour in the province and now they were trying to mislead masses by putting the onus on federal government.

The leader of the opposition also stressed on immediate measures for ensuring availability of wheat flour at fixed prices across the province.

“Although Sindh government had fixed wheat price at Rs 1950 per 40 kilogram, rate of wheat flour in the province was hovering between Rs price at 70 to 80 per kilogram while in Punjab the same commodity was available at lower price of Rs 55, ” he maintained.

The Sindh cabinet was informed by Food department in a recent meeting that wheat worth over Rs 800 million was spoiled in warehouses as they found gunny bags stored in warehouses filled with dust, Haleem Adil said adding that PPP was trying to put the same dust into eyes of people.

He alleged that during PPP regime 1.6 million tons wheat went missing from food department’s warehouses. “Rats sitting in cabinet eaten up wheat worth Rs 14 billion in the previous year while it was confessed in the recent cabinet meeting that wheat worth Rs 8 billion had been stolen, ” Haleem Adil Sheikh noted.

He alleged that wheat was stolen by Bachal Rahupoto run corrupt system of Murad Ali Shah while nowadays another system consisting 2 women and 3 young men were steering the affairs in Sindh. Haleem also asked CM Murad Ali Shah what action had been taken over issue of missing wheat that put the food department under a burden of bank loans amounting to Rs.150 billion besides triggering food inflation.
