HYDERABAD:Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan’s convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said that the Supreme Court decision regarding Local Government system in Sindh was complete and comprehensive which will benefit other provinces as well.

If any attempt of “judicial robbery” is made to us, then there are avenues of law and Parliament besides our taking out to the streets also, he said while addressing a press conference here at MQM Pakistan’s district office on Wednesday.

Accompanied by former Mayor Hyderabad Syed Sohail Mehmood Mashhadi, MPA Rashid Khilji and MQM’s District Organizer Zafar Siddiqui, Dr. Khalid Maqbool said that the Supreme Court has made a better decision, albeit belatedly, which would be helpful for the poor people of Sindh.

He said that now is the time to end the feudal system in Sindh and we were ready to follow other struggling people including farmers, laborers and lawyers. Dr Khalid Maqbool said that the recent decision of the Supreme Court could change the fate of other provinces.

He said that political as well as administrative sanctions have been imposed on MQM for the last several years and thousands of cases were registered but no one was found guilty except one person. He said that the tragedy of the country was that there had been so-called democracy while basic democracy was abolished but now the

days of the feudal lords are numbered.

Describing the decision of the Supreme Court regarding local bodies as a success of Pakistan and Sindh, Dr. Khalid Maqbool said that if a review petition was filed against this decision, we would also fight a legal battle.

Responding to a question, the MQM convener said that in the Sindh Local Government Act – 2013, the mayors of Karachi and Hyderabad did not have the authority to even pick up garbage and drainage.

He said that the PSP was saying that the decision of the Supreme Court was the same as what they were doing in the sit-in, then they should have to accept this decision.
