LAHORE:Federal Ombudsperson Syed Tahir Shahbaz on Friday urged the academies working under the criminal justice system, schools and religious forums to play their role in raising awareness on cyber crimes against children.
He was addressing the first provincial consultative meeting on prevention and control of cyber crimes against children, which was held here at regional office Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat.
The Federal Ombudsman said that the institution had developed a roadmap for strengthening the law and mechanism for their effective enforcement and raising awareness among masses. He added that the government had passed a bill in this regard and now it was the responsibility of the law enforcement department to take necessary measures for implementing the law in letter and spirit.
Provincial Ombudsman Azam Suleman Khan said that constant parents-teachers meetings could play a vital role in resolving the issues related to children.
Senior Advisor and National Commissioner for Children Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi briefed the meeting that in a new proposed amendment, the police would have jurisdiction to take cognizance of offences of cyber crimes against children and would refer the matter to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation.
He said that training modules had been devised for police and judicial academies so that decision making authorities could be sensitised on the matter professionally.
He said that Radio Pakistan had devised public service messages in 22 languages and airing those around the country.
Syed Viqar-un-Nisa Hashmi, convener of the Sub-committee on Raising Awareness, said that seminars and training sessions on cyber crimes against children would be held at all police and judicial academies. She highlighted the main content of the National Action Plan for creating awareness on cyber crimes against children.
Chief Provincial Commissioner for Children Mian Mohsin Rashid, Child Protection Bureau director general, Lahore Development Authority chairman, DIG (Training), Punjab Police Dr Usman, Director FIA Regional office, prominent NGOs working on child rights and others were also present.
