Lahore: Prompt availability of anti-snake venom and timely medical intervention by doctors at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) saved the lives of 10 people bitten by snakes during the first month of the rainy season.
According to the LGH spokesperson on Saturday, the victims, belonging to Okara, Kasur and areas surrounding Lahore, were brought to the hospital’s Emergency Department after being bitten by snakes during the month.
The medical teams immediately administered anti-venom injections according to the patients’ conditions and provided them with necessary treatment. All 10 patients were stabilised and are now recovering.
The families of the victims expressed gratitude to the hospital administration and doctors for providing prompt treatment and free medical facilities.
Postgraduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Dr Farooq Afzal and LGH Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr Faryad Hussain said that, in line with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the hospital was providing free and quality medical and diagnostic facilities to patients.
They said emergency and other departments of the hospital remained operational round the clock to deal with emergencies and save precious human lives.
Assistant Professor Dr Muhammad Maqsood and Dr Anum Batool said snakes and other reptiles became more active during the summer and rainy seasons. They advised citizens to remain cautious while visiting fields and grassy areas, wear proper footwear and avoid sleeping on the ground at night.
They warned that even a moment of carelessness could prove fatal in the event of a snakebite and urged people to seek immediate medical attention without delay.
