Lahore: The Horticulture Agency Lahore has accelerated its Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2026 across the provincial capital under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to expand the city’s green cover and promote environmental sustainability.
As part of the ongoing campaign, Vice Chairman WASA Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmad, accompanied by Zone Director Horticulture Gulzar Hussain, planted a sapling at the green belt of the Orange Line Metro Train project near Sultanpura Station, reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment to creating a greener and cleaner Lahore.
Addressing the ceremony, Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmad said tree plantation was one of the most effective measures to combat environmental degradation, improve air quality and mitigate the effects of climate change. He urged every citizen to plant at least one tree during the monsoon season and take responsibility for its protection and proper maintenance, saying public participation was vital for the success of the campaign.
Earlier, Zone Director Horticulture Gulzar Hussain briefed the vice chairman on the progress of the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign, highlighting plantation activities being carried out at green belts, parks, medians and major roads across the city. He said special attention was also being given to the care, irrigation and survival of newly planted saplings to ensure long-term environmental benefits.
He added that the Horticulture Agency would continue plantation activities throughout the monsoon season with the objective of increasing Lahore’s green cover, enhancing the urban landscape and contributing to a cleaner, healthier and more climate-resilient city.
