Faisalabad: Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General (DG) Muhammad Asif Chaudhry has said that comprehensive safety measures have been implemented across FDA City to safeguard lives and property of citizens.

He said that as part of these initiatives, strong protective safety nets have been installed inside hundreds of sewer manholes while new high-quality lids have been fitted on all manholes where covers were missing.

He said that the special campaign, carried out under the supervision of Chief Engineer Mehr Ayub and Deputy Director Engineering Talha Tabassum, prioritized the installation of these additional safety features in residential blocks, along major sewer lines and at other sensitive locations.

He said that a detailed survey of the entire sewerage network in FDA City was completed to identify all missing manhole covers, which were replaced immediately.

He said that the main sewer lines and other related infrastructure have been further reinforced to ensure the efficient functioning of the drainage system and to protect citizens from any potential accidents.

He directed the concerned officers to ensure regular monitoring, timely inspections, and proper maintenance of the sewerage system.

He emphasized that no manhole should remain uncovered under any circumstances and warned that negligence or laxity in implementing safety measures would not be tolerated.

The Director General further stated that similar safety initiatives are also underway in private housing schemes. All developers have been instructed to ensure that their sewerage systems, manholes, and covers comply with the prescribed safety standards and are structurally secure.

He warned that if any loss of life or property occurs due to negligence or inadequate safety arrangements in a private housing scheme, strict legal action will be taken against the responsible developer in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming the Authority’s commitment, the Director General stated that the FDA will utilize all available resources to provide a safe urban environment, improve modern infrastructure, and enhance the quality of public services.

He emphasized that the protection of citizens’ lives and property will remain the Authority’s foremost priority.

Dera ismail khan: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghulam Mubashir Mekan visited the District Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) to review its performance and reaffirm police support for providing speedy, affordable and accessible justice to the public.

During the visit, the RPO was accompanied by District Police Officer (DPO) Ziauddin Ahmed, DRC Secretary Muhammad Nawaz Mehsud and other council members.

The RPO was briefed on the council’s performance over the past six months. The officials informed him that the DRC had received 99 applications during the period, successfully resolving 75 long-standing disputes through mutual reconciliation after concise hearings. Eleven cases were referred to the relevant legal forums for further proceedings, while special panels have been constituted to expedite the disposal of the remaining pending cases.

Speaking on the occasion, DPO Ziauddin Ahmed said the DRC was playing a vital role in safeguarding human rights and ensuring prompt justice through fair and merit-based decisions. He noted that the council’s effective mediation was gradually reducing the burden of cases on police stations and courts, and commended its members for their dedicated voluntary services.

Addressing the council members, RPO Ghulam Mubashir Mekan praised their efforts in promoting reconciliation and social harmony, saying they were performing a noble responsibility by bringing people together and resolving disputes peacefully.

He urged the members to continue dispensing impartial justice, particularly to poor and vulnerable citizens, without fear or favour.

The RPO said one of the greatest strengths of the DRC was that it provided free and equal access to justice for all citizens, regardless of their social or financial status. He added that the police department was committed to expanding the DRC network so that more people could have their disputes resolved at their doorstep while fostering lasting peace and brotherhood in society.

He assured the council of the police’s full cooperation.

At the end, the DRC chairman and secretary thanked the RPO and the DPO for their continued patronage and support, and honoured them with traditional turbans in recognition of their commitment to strengthening the council’s role in community dispute resolution.

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Standing Committee on Minerals chaired by Ikram Ullah Ghazi here Wednesday reviewed the progress and implementation on the decision taken in previous meeting.

The meeting was attended by committee members including Muhammad Yamin Khan, Ahmad Karim Kundi, Zubair Khan, Shehla Bano, and Sobia Shahid, Secretary Minerals and representatives from the Forest Department, Revenue Department, Law Department, Advocate General’s Office and the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.

The committee reviewed the progress made by minerals department in implementing the directives issued during the previous meeting and examined the follow up measures. Secretary minerals briefed the committee on the department’s performance, ongoing initiatives and overall progress.

During the meeting, Member Provincial Assembly Ahmad Karim Kundi raised various questions regarding mineral leases, reserved areas, protected areas and forest related matters.

Chairman of the committee, Ikram Ullah Ghazi expressed concern that out of approximately 4,000 mineral leases only around 2,000 are currently operational while 765 leases have been cancelled.

Officials from the minerals department explained that lease cancellations were due to a number of factors including the law and order situation, issues related to the use of explosives during mining operations and legal complications concerning forest lands.

Committee member Zubair Khan pointed out that in some cases, the ownership of the land belongs to one individual while the minerals department issues mining leases in the name of another person. Taking notice of the matter, Chairman directed the formation of a subcommittee to conduct a comparative review of the data provided by the forest department and minerals department regarding reserved and protected areas.

The subcommittee would also examine issued mineral leases and procedures followed for their issuance, cancelled leases and the losses incurred by the affected companies. The subcommittee will submit its report to the standing committee which will use its findings to determine the future course of action.

Chairman also directed senior officials of minerals and forest departments to ensure that the views of landowners are duly incorporated while drafting special laws and legislation relating to the minerals sector. He further instructed the relevant departments to ensure their participation in the next meeting with accurate data and complete records.
