Sargodha: Divisional Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali on Wednesday presided over a meeting which unanimously approved the Municipal Corporation Sargodha’s budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, amounting to a total of Rs 4.01 billion. The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Ahmad Bilal Makhdoom, the Municipal Officer for Finance, the Municipal Officer for Planning, and other relevant officials. It was briefed during the session that the budget estimates include over Rs 1.825 billion to be received through government grants and over Rs 1.309 billion to be generated from the corporation’s own revenue sources.

According to the approved documents, over Rs 3.399 billion have been allocated for non-developmental expenditures, while Rs 459 million were earmarked for the Annual Development Programme and various government grant schemes. A closing balance of Rs 154.407 million was also estimated for the conclusion of the fiscal year. Addressing the participants, Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali stated that the budget was designed with a focus on public interest, transparent financial discipline, and the improvement of urban amenities.

He directed the authorities to prioritize the enhancement of municipal services, such as sanitation, sewerage, road maintenance, and street lighting, while ensuring the effective utilization of resources. The Commissioner further emphasized that all officers concerned must fulfill their duties with integrity to ensure the timely completion of development projects and the provision of better facilities to the residents of Sargodha.

Chiniot: Heavy rain in Chiniot city and its surroundings broke the grip of intense heat and humidity that had persisted for several days, bringing pleasant weather and relief to citizens.

In view of the fear of water accumulation in various low-lying areas during the rain, WASA Chiniot staff remained on high alert. All field teams of WASA continued to monitor low-lying areas, sewer lines and disposal stations and remained active to ensure timely drainage so that citizens did not face any problem.

On the other hand, as soon as the rain started, the electricity feeders of several areas of the city tripped, suspending power supply in many areas.

Teams of the relevant agencies were active to restore power. Citizens welcomed the pleasant change in the weather due to the rain, however, the administration has appealed to the citizens to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel in low-lying areas.

Multan: The district administration has decided to launch third phase of the Alma Mater Outreach Campaign to further improve infrastructure and educational facilities in government schools across Multan Division. The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan, which assessed progress on the provision of missing facilities in public schools through the support of former students.

The meeting was informed that facilities worth Rs 240 million had been provided in government schools during the first two phases of the campaign. These included the establishment of IT laboratories, construction of classrooms, development of libraries and installation of solar energy systems with the financial assistance of alumni. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said the campaign had emerged as an effective model for mobilizing successful former students to contribute to the development of their alma maters. He urged graduates of government schools, particularly those who were financially well-established, to play their role in improving educational institutions that had helped shape their future. Aamir Karim Khan said the administration was identifying and contacting financially stable alumni to encourage their participation in the initiative.

He expressed confidence that greater alumni participation would further enhance the academic environment in public schools and help bridge infrastructure gaps.
