Hyderabad: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Sunday organised a protest rally here on Sunday decrying Indian aggression on the Indus River’s water and its violation of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT).

The rally, led by PPP’s Sindh President and Chairman Public Accounts Committee in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, passed through different roads in Hyderabad before concluding outside Hyderabad press club.

Speaking on the occasion, Khuhro said Pakistan would never tolerate any aggression on its rivers’ water let alone allow India to unilaterally violate the IWT.

He emphasized that Sindh being the lower riparian had the biggest right on the Indus River.

The PPP’s provincial chief said Pakistan was fully capable of defending its sovereignty and national interests.

He added that the country had responded firmly to external aggression in the past and would continue to safeguard its territorial integrity and water resources.

He reiterated that the people of Sindh were united in protecting the Indus River.

“Any attempt to rob Pakistan’s water rights or violate the IWT is unacceptable,” he underlined.

Khuhro urged the federal government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to pursue effective diplomatic and legal measures to safeguard the country’s water interests.

“People of Pakistan won’t tolerate any threat to the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity or water resources,” he underscored.

He reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to protecting the rights associated with the Indus River.

The PPP’s MNA Syed Tariq Shah Jamote, Hyderabad Division’s PPP President ex-Senator Aajiz Dhamra and other local leaders of the party besides a large number of workers participated in the rally.

Wah cantt: The Rawalpindi district food department said Sunday that wheat flour is available in sufficient quantities across all tehsils of the district at officially notified prices, with monitoring teams carrying out daily inspections to ensure an uninterrupted supply.

District Food Controller Azhar Abbas told reporters that a 10-kilogram bag of flour is being supplied to tandoor owners for 950 Pakistani rupees, while the same bag is available in the open market at the government-fixed price of 1,100 rupees.

Abbas said food department teams are conducting daily inspections of flour depots and markets to monitor stock levels, ensure compliance with official price lists and oversee the supply chain.

“We are closely monitoring the distribution system to ensure that consumers receive flour at the notified rates without any interruption,” Abbas said.

He said providing quality flour at affordable prices remains a priority and warned that authorities would continue taking action against hoarding and profiteering in line with directives from the Punjab government to protect consumers and maintain price stability.

Nwabshah: District-wide crackdown against illegal wheat hoarding is underway on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani.The initiative was taken in compliance with the directives of Government of Sindh.

The operations are being led by Assistant Commissioners across the district.

In this regard, Assistant Commissioners, in collaboration with officials of the Food Department, conducted joint inspections of several warehouses in different areas from July 8 to July 12. During these operations, 15,218 bags of illegally hoarded wheat were seized.

The ongoing operations resulted in the seizure of 450 wheat bags in Nawabshah, 13,000 bags in Daur, and 1,768 bags in Qazi Ahmed.

Deputy Commissioner directed concerned officers that illegal wheat hoarding would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He emphasized that indiscriminate action must continue against those involved to ensure the availability of wheat and flour to public at reasonable prices.

DC said that, in accordance with the directives of Government of Sindh, all concerned departments should work in close coordination to eliminate illegal wheat hoarding and ensure a transparent supply of wheat in the market so that public does not face any inconvenience.
