Islamabad: Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Tuesday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic killing of the son of Daily Jang News Editor Iqbal Nadeem.

In a condolence message, the minister extended his heartfelt sympathies to Iqbal Nadeem, the bereaved family and the entire journalist community over the irreparable loss.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and bless the bereaved family with patience and strength to bear this immense tragedy.

Hanif Abbasi also called for an immediate, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident, urging the relevant authorities to bring those responsible to justice and ensure they would be awarded strict punishment in accordance with the law.

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working closely with the newly elected government of Gilgit-Baltistan for the welfare and development of the area and its people.

During a meeting with Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Amjad Hussain at the PM House, the prime minister congratulated Amjad Hussain on assuming the office of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The prime minister said that the federal government was undertaking development initiatives in Gilgit-Baltistan across renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, health, education, and other sectors.

He noted that the federal government’s flagship initiatives included a 100 MW solar power project and the establishment of Daanish Schools in the region.

He further said that the federal government was planning to establish a Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre in Gilgit to facilitate the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, and Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema were also present at the meeting.

Islamabad: Iranian Interior Minister, Iskandar Momeni was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Islamabad Police Lines on Tuesday, where a grand police parade was held in his honour during his official visit to Pakistan.

Accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Momeni received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the parade ground. A special contingent of the Islamabad Police presented an impressive guard of honour, reflecting the strong and cordial relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The national anthems of Pakistan and Iran were played during the ceremony, adding to the significance of the occasion. The Iranian interior minister, accompanied by Talal Chaudhry, inspected the parade and reviewed the smartly turned-out police contingent.

Expressing his appreciation for the professionalism and discipline displayed by the Islamabad Police, Momeni commended the force for its operational capabilities and dedication to maintaining law and order.

In recognition of outstanding service, the visiting minister distributed awards to police personnel who had demonstrated exceptional performance in the line of duty, acknowledging their commitment and professionalism.

Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, along with other senior police officials, attended the ceremony. The event underscored the growing cooperation and mutual respect between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in the fields of law enforcement, security, and institutional collaboration.

Islamabad: Police have solved the murder of an eight-year-old boy in Chiniot and arrested the victim’s cousin for allegedly killing him following a dispute, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the body of Muhammad Ahmed was found in a sugarcane field earlier this month. Senior police officers and a Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) team reached the scene, collected evidence and registered a murder case against unidentified suspects at Muhammad Wala Police Station.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Naveed Atif constituted a special investigation team under the supervision of the DSP of Lalian Circle to trace the killer. During the investigation, SHO Muhammad Wala Police Station Sub-Inspector Arsalan Zafar and his team used forensic evidence, modern technology and human intelligence to identify and arrest the victim’s cousin.

Police said the suspect confessed to killing Muhammad Ahmed after a quarrel and allegedly stabbed him to death. Further legal proceedings are underway.

DPO Dr. Naveed Atif commended the investigating team for solving the case and awarded officers certificates of appreciation in recognition of their performance.

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday extended felicitations to King Philippe of the Kingdom of Belgium, the Government and the people of Belgium on their National Day. The president, in a statement, highlighted that Pakistan and Belgium enjoy long-standing and cordial relations founded on mutual respect, trust and goodwill.

He noted with satisfaction that over the years, the two countries have developed a constructive partnership across diverse fields.

He emphasized that Pakistan values its engagement with the European Union, in which Belgium plays a pivotal role, and looks forward to further strengthening cooperation to achieve their shared objectives of peace, sustainable development and mutual prosperity.

President Zardari expressed confidence that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Belgium will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead for the mutual benefit of the people of both nations.

Islamabad: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, on Tuesday recommended the confirmation of an additional judge of the Lahore High Court, the appointment of 10 additional judges to the Lahore High Court and three additional judges to the High Court of Balochistan, besides considering proposed amendments to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Appointment of Judges) Rules, 2024.

The Commission met at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad in its respective compositions under Article 175A(2) of the Constitution, for the Lahore High Court and for the High Court of Balochistan. During the meeting, it reviewed several agenda items.

The Commission considered proposed amendments to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Appointment of Judges) Rules, 2024, and decided to circulate the proposals among all remaining members of the Commission, including representatives of the Federal Shariat Court and the high courts, for their consideration and approval.

For the Lahore High Court, the Commission, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the confirmation of Additional Judge Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa as a judge of the court.

The Commission also recommended, by a majority of its total membership, the appointment of 10 additional judges to the Lahore High Court. The nominees are Amir Ajam Malik, Asad Ali Bajwa, Barrister Muhammad Usman Ghani Rashid Cheema, Ghulam Sarwar Nihang, Khalid Ibn-i-Aziz, Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid, Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz, Munawar Iqbal Duggal, Shiren Imran and Syed Farhad Ali, all senior advocates of the Supreme Court.

Regarding the High Court of Balochistan, the Commission recommended the appointment of three additional judges against five vacant positions. The nominees are District and Sessions Judge Allah Dad Roshan, senior advocate of the Supreme Court Muhammad Rauf Atta and District and Sessions Judge Abdul Qayyum Lehri. The remaining two vacancies were left unfilled.
